As the crisp air and cooler breezes take over the sweet summertime, they start to bring us back inside the home. While we recover from all of our summer travels and adventures, fall is the perfect time to recollect and come back together in the home with family and friends alike.
Here are 7 tips to help you have the most enjoyable autumn!
Bring Outside In
As the autumn season brings you back inside, it also gives you a great opportunity to bring the outdoors with you. The beautiful colors that nature freely shares are an easy way to transition your home from summer to fall. Incorporate warm earthy color pallets and let leaves and harvest fruits infiltrate your decor, especially in gathering places within the home.
Front Door Decor
With pumpkins, hay bales, leaves, and wreaths, the front door decorating in fall is an easy seasonal favorite. Fall is a time for gathering and the front door acts as a gateway of sorts to any gathering so it’s appropriate that it is filled with festive fun. This season marks the start to guests trickling in as they continue to do through the holidays.
Here are a few festive fall crafting ideas:
- paint pumpkins
- make a wreath with fall foliage
- add burlap ribbon to vases or various home decor pieces
- spray paint something gold
- make a fall floral arrangement
- create centerpieces out of natural fall elements
Some great natural fall elements are:
- white pumpkins
- bittersweet vines
- indian corn
- wood shavings
If crafting isn’t your strong suit, substitute this activity for an afternoon at a local craft fair. Fall is a popular time for this type of event and its a great way to support makers in your community and add homey fall decor to your home.
Give the Space a New Look
Spring is for cleaning, summer is for to-do lists, and by fall your home is ready to be re-styled! Take the season to shift up your décor style. That can mean replacing some larger pieces, like your bedding, or can be as simple as replacing your summer décor with fall pieces and colors schemes.
If you’re going to be inside more, might as well get cozy! Simply adding extra blankets, throw pillows, candles and twinkle lights is an easy way to add a level of coziness and ambiance to your home.
Entertain-ify Your Gathering Spaces
Not only do you spend more time inside as the season turns to to autumn but fall lays the foundation for the entertaining season of the holidays and home comfort becomes very important during these times. Having house guests especially, it’s important that your home is guest-ready this time of year. This can mean ensuring your home comfort systems are all a go from ceiling fans to heating and cooling (nothing is worse than having too many guests and no airflow.) Also, make sure your guest bathroom is ready to rock, or start your baking dry runs to try out your holiday recipes now.
Create an Outdoor Nook
Create a space outside for yourself to enjoy morning light while it’s here – create a cozy spot with a blanket and a book to be sure you’re still getting your rays even with the shorter days.
